Stars and stripes scrapbooking process video

Hi everyone, I'm back today with a scrapbooking process video for the stars and stripes scrapbooking layout I featured on the blog yesterday, also shown below.

Join me as I walk through the creation of this layout, detailing everything step-by-step. I'll also share a few tips you can use on any layout. Just remember...while I created this shooting star / Patriotic layout documenting our day at the beach celebrating the 4th of July, you could use the cut file for countless other themes - baby, stargazing, and so much more.

Get the full list of supplies needed below and download the Shooting Star cut file I created HERE.

Celebrate 2018 Scrapbooking Layout and Cut File

Happy 2018 everyone!  I'm here with a fun, festive 2018 scrapbooking layout and 2018 cut file graphic. Whether you went out or stayed home, this is perfect for documenting how you rang in the new year.

2018 Scrapbooking Layout Supplies

To create this layout, download the free cut file I created HERE. You'll also need 4 patterned papers for the 2018 plus additional papers for the background and layers around the photo, foam dots and embellishments.

Celebrate 2018

2018 New Years Scrapbook Layout and free cut file by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #happyhooray and #girlsquad collections #madewithpebbles #silhouettecameo

I created the file so that the numbers layer over each other.  I chose to apply the layers starting with the 8 and working back to the 2 so that the 8 layers over the 1 over the 0 over the 2. Look closely at the patterns where they overlap and then you do whatever works best for your layout.

Time for Photos

2018 New Years Scrapbook Layout and free cut file by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #happyhooray and #girlsquad collections #madewithpebbles #silhouettecameo

I printed my photos to 3" x 3" size and then added layers of patterned paper and white cardstock. Next, I added more chipboard, die cuts and enamel confetti around the photos. I even added "hip hip hooray" over part of the 8 as well as over the photo.

Embellish!

I added a little party hat and more enamels to the top right of the layout to continue the fun, festive vibe.

Celebrate!

I added a chipboard word, "celebrate", to the top left over the 2. Now when you look at the overall layout, you can see a triangle of embellishments from the celebrate to the party hat to the happy day at the bottom. 2018 New Years Scrapbook Layout and free cut file by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #happyhooray and #girlsquad collections #madewithpebbles #silhouettecameo So there you have it, the opening page to my 2018 album!

We Believe Christmas Traditions Scrapbooking Layout

Merry Christmas, y'all!   I have to tell you about one of my family's Christmas traditions - train ride to see Santa via the Polar Express in our Christmas pajamas from our house elves.  The girls get super excited when they discover these gifts from their elves, who by the way end up covered in tape and wrapping paper. It's so funny and so cute to watch the girls.  I've documented this story on this scrapbooking layout.

The girls even received a golden ticket for the ride.

Gather your supplies

Christmas Traditions Scrapbooking Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #merrymerry collection #madewithpebbles #scrapbooking #scrapbook #Christmas #ChristmasTraditions #ChristmasTree #Cutfile You'll need 5 - 9 patterned papers, scissors or die cut machine, the free cut file I designed, mist or other ink medium, die cuts and other embellishments as listed in supplies below.

Document your Christmas Traditions

Christmas Traditions Scrapbooking Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #merrymerry collection #madewithpebbles #scrapbooking #scrapbook #Christmas #ChristmasTraditions #ChristmasTree #Cutfile Hand cut the pieces of your Christmas tree or download my free cut file HERE. Cut each piece and arrange on the page to make sure you like how it looks. Don't add adhesive yet.  You may choose to cut each piece using a different pattern like I did, the same pattern or a repeating pattern. Either way, it will look fantastic.  I chose to spread them out with a little space here and there but you might want to place them right next to each other without the space.
  Christmas Traditions Scrapbooking Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #merrymerry collection #madewithpebbles #scrapbooking #scrapbook #Christmas #ChristmasTraditions #ChristmasTree #Cutfile

Next, spray gold mist lightly over your background paper. Once dry, splatter red, green and gold.  Let that dry as well. Add your tree pieces back to the page and add some random, creative stitching.  Don't worry about perfection. It was designed to have some irregularities.
Christmas Traditions Scrapbooking Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #merrymerry collection #madewithpebbles #scrapbooking #scrapbook #Christmas #ChristmasTraditions #ChristmasTree #CutfileAdd some puffy stickers as decorations for your trees to add a bit more dimension.  Try to pick out stickers that are the same color as or coordinate with the patterned paper.

Christmas Traditions Documented

Christmas Traditions Scrapbooking Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @PebblesInc #merrymerry collection #madewithpebbles #scrapbooking #scrapbook #Christmas #ChristmasTraditions #ChristmasTree #Cutfile Add your photos and other embellishments and don't forget your journaling.  While I am going to create a complimentary Christmas traditions pocket page with photos of the elves and extensive journaling, I left space at the top of the photos to add journal strips.

Aloha in your heart | Hula Girl scrapbook layout, free cut file and tutorial

Aloha everyone!  I wanted to chat with you today about journaling but first, I just have to say—I love working with the Sunshiny Days collection! They are perfect for all the fun summer activities we've been doing as a family.  From the pool to the beach (and all the sweet treats in-between), it seems to cover the full spectrum.  Naturally, it was my go-to for documenting my sweet daughter practicing her hula dancing on the beach. Take a look below at the hula girl scrapbook layout I created and then I'll walk you through a step-by-step tutorial.

Hula Girl scrapbook layout

Hula Girl scrapbook supplies

This layout can be used for any type of tropical, summertime activity. To re-create this layout, you'll need to gather a few supplies...

  • patterned paper for palm leaves
  • my free palm leaves cut file for Silhouette
  • ephemera

  • stickers

  • Thickers

  • adhesive

  • Print a photo that's approximately 7" w x 9" h and place it in the upper right corner of the page.

Then cut a 9 1/2" circle template out of scrap paper to use as a photo template.  You can also cut the photo using your die cut machine—I'm not brave enough, so I went with this method to make sure I cut it exactly where I wanted. To use my method, I've found a super cool trick to finding the perfect placement.  First, take the leftover paper from the circle you cut out and place it over your photo until you see exactly what you want to show (see example above).

Next, without moving anything, place the circle back inside the cut out, over your photo, as shown above.

Remove the outer circle piece so that just the circle remains over the photo, like you see in the photo above.

Then carefully pick it up and cut your photo using the circle as your guide.  Now you have your photo cut exactly how you want.

    Palm Tree Leaf Border

Download my free palm leaves cut file for Silhouette and cut different sized leaves from 2 - 3 patterned papers.  The photo above includes leaves I cut using my file as well as ephemera from the Sunshiny Days collection.

Adhere the leaves around the circular part of your photo, creating a border of leaves and flowers. Place a few more in the opposite bottom corner (I also added a couple at the top corner of my photo).

    Journaling tips

I decided to journal in 2 ways.  First, this layout will coordinate with a 2nd layout telling the story of how my daughter learned hula, I thought I'd make this the "hero" or title page of the album and use the 2nd page to tell the longer story. With that in mind, I wanted to use a big title.  How does this relate to journaling? Well, the 2nd way I decided to approach this was to use hula blessing as my title.  Since it was too long for an actual title, I hand wrote part of it (journaling) and then put the key part of the quote in Thickers to highlight them.

I enjoy using quotes, song lyrics, things my children say, etc. as my title.  It's also super fun to mix them in with the journaling. You can easily tell your story instead of a quote (like I did) and then choose key words or phrases in your journaling and highlight them within your story.

Patriotic Scrapbook Layout: Land of the Free Because of the Brave

Hello everyone, I'm here today with a patriotic layout and free cutting file.  With Memorial Day coming up here in the USA, this idea can serve many purposes. Before I go any further, thanks to all who serve or have served and sacrificed for our freedom!

Land of the Free, Because of the Brave Patriotic Layout

I find inspiration from so many things -- television ads, magazines, art posters, quilts, etc. but the inspiration for today's layout came directly from the photo.  My daughter's shirt, which she wore during a Veteran's Day celebration at her school that her grandfather (United States Navy) was invited to attend, was the muse behind the layout.
I created the peace flag design with curved text using my Silhouette software.  I like to draw everything in the software when I am working with files, so that I know it will all fit perfectly on the page.  This is the design I created, sized to include a 3" x 4" photo.  You can download it free HERE.

    Peace flag patriotic layout tutorial

Step 1: Remove grey photo block
Step 2: Ungroup the words from the peace flag and set aside

Step 3: Without moving the peace flag (it's centered perfectly on the page), cut a template of the peace flag using 12" x 12" scrap paper. I've placed my template over text patterned paper so you can easily see, but I actually used white cardstock as my background.

Step 4: Ungroup the peace flag. Cut the blue section and red stripes out of whatever paper you choose.
Step 5: Ungroup the words and arrange them on the page to cut them from your paper of choice.

Step 6: Place your cut pieces inside the template, careful not to glue the template to the paper pieces. Remove the template. Now you have a perfectly spaced and centered peace flag for your patriotic layout.

OPTIONAL: Machine or hand stitch around the sections of the peace sign. You can see my stitching below.

Step 7: Add your words around the circle flag. Make sure your photo will fit before you adhere your title to the page.

Step 8: Add mist splatters around the page and embellishments according to your preference.

Add your photo and journaling. You patriotic layout is now complete! Wishing you a good Memorial Day, spent with family and friends as you honor those who have served their country.

Lucky Charm Scrapbooking Layout and Free Cut File

Hello everyone!  Heather Leopard is here to present you with my lucky charm and a free Silhouette cut file so you can create your own Lucky Charm scrapbooking layout!

Lucky Charm Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @pebblesinc #Tealightful collection

I consider my girl to be as rare as a 4 leaf clover so I thought it was appropriate to create a background full of these lucky clovers.  You can too by downloading this free Silhouette cut file HERE.

Lucky Charm Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @pebblesinc #Tealightful collection

I used two patterned papers and cut 2 different sizes of clovers, which are included in the free cut file.  Then, I placed them 4 across and 4 down. It is a 4 leaf clover afterall.  I alternated the large clover patterns.

Lucky Charm Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @pebblesinc #Tealightful collection

Once they were all placed on the page, I tacked them with a dab of glue to keep them in place.  Then I stitched a + or an x through them.  Next, I lifted up the sides of each petal and creased them in the middle.  I also alternated puffy flower stickers and gold sequins to the middle of the clovers. You can see this better in the photo below.

Lucky Charm Layout by @HeatherLeopard using @pebblesinc #Tealightful collection

I kept the layering around the photos to a minimum since the background was already so busy.  I added just enough to draw attention to the photos.

I just love the pink glitter Thickers included with this collection.  I blended them with a script "lucky" to complete the layout.

    Supplies:
Tealightful Bouquet 12x12 patterned paper (733527)
Tealightful Lovely Lilacs 12x12 patterned paper (733534)
Tealightful Floral Patchwork 12x12 patterned paper (733535)
    Tealightful Puffy Stickers (733542)
    American Crafts Thickers Maggie (733538)
