I {Heart} Lily Bee

It's true! I do!

I really do love working with Lily Bee products. The problem is that it's a bit hard to find at my LSS. Thanks to Scrapbook Circle kit club, however, I can always count on some of the new lines to come in their fabulous kits. Lisa puts together the most wonderful kits, combining the best of the latest scrappy goodness from various manufacturers, which always seems to mesh so well together but that's not why I'm blogging today! But you should really go check our her kits. She sold out of Talk of the Town but I've seen a peek of next month's and it looks amazing!

The News!
I'm soo excited to say that I've been invited to join the Lily Bee team! So now I get to work with even more Lily Bee!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've tried out for the team a couple of times previously when they had open calls but with over 200 applying I never made the cut. I took time to really hone in on my style and preferences, which is always a work in progress in my opinion. Anyway, I am stoked to work alongside such talent! Make sure to check out the rest of the new team members, as posted on the blog.

I recently blogged a layout using the new Persnickety collection. I only had a couple of sheets but it's a fave layout of mine currently. You can see it on the Lily Bee blog or see the close-ups HERE (and participate in a blog hop).

If you are new to my blog, I hope MY GALLERY inspires you! Leave me a note below and I'll check out your blog as well!

hello {or hell.} Card

Hi there! I have a quick little card to show you today. I created it for a challenge Cari, our DT coordinator, gave me. She challenged the Imaginisce design team to go outside of the box for this project. Here's the lowdown:

DESIGN TEAM CHALLENGE:

  • Create a non-traditional project (no circle, no squares, etc). Really think out of the ordinary here.
  • Use the color ORANGE somewhere on your project.
  • Use the i-top tool on your project.

So here's what I created. I used a Lori Whitlock cutting file and my CAMEO. I just love how this card turned out.

Problem is, I used my i-rock instead of my i-top. Luckily I realized it in time and added a small i-top brad daddy. So what do you see here?
I thought I was being clever by adding the brad to symbolize the "o" and I can totally see the word "hello" but I also see the word "hell." It's like I'm really calling attention to it with a giant period... Maybe I should add the word "oh" at the top of it. LOL! Oh hell, who cares?

I love to laugh at myself and I'm not afraid to show it. Now, do I give it to anyone???

This Moment Today

We spent a 4 day weekend at the beach as we were wrapping up summer. We rented this nice beach house in San Luis Pass. One of the things we loved about it was the deck, which overlooked the Gulf. When we weren't at the beach having fun, we'd just sit out in the recliners, swings and hammock. My daughters had the most fun in this swing made from super soft rope. You kind of had to crawl into it to get settled and it was a lot of fun. I snapped these photos of my oldest enjoying the swing.

Supplies: American Crafts Amy Tangerine Ready Set Go collection: Coffee Break paper 35768, Wind Down paper 35776, Running Errands Paper 35770, Green Light Paper 35765, Details stitched vellum embellishments 85593, Remarks Sure Thing 42255, Bits die cut cardstock shapes 85589, Flair adhesive badges 85590, Bits decorative tags 85588, Remarks Delighted 42252, Thickers Everyday 53392, Premium Ribbon 89428, Today Roller Stamp 59220, Roller Date Stamp 96731

Creative How-to: I started with this week's sketch from Creative Scrappers. I added a 4-5inch-ish strip of pattern paper to the layout, leaving the strip at the bottom of the paper intact (that's the days of the week strip you see). Cut strips from the Running Errands paper and layer them over each other.  Grab your mask - I used a Studio Calico small chevron mask - and add paint over the sections you want to show through. I wanted this to look blotchy so I applied paint liberally. Remove the mask and apply paint to other sections of the layout. Once the paint dried, I added a couple of rows of stitched chevrons, mostly over the blotchy painted areas to add definition. Add the title - I outlined the word "today" because I felt like it was getting lost and wanted it to pop just a bit more off the page.

Add photos and embellishments. I wanted to put the journaling card behind the top photo so I made sure to not adhere the photo down where I wanted to insert he card. I cut a few strips of the paper again and tore them to make them look like washi tape. I stamped over the faux washi and also over the die cut flower.

Journaling reads: Rheagan loved nestling her way into this rope swing. She would swing and spin in it on the deck of the beach house. That is, when she wasn't relaxing in the hammock with a book or our iPads.

Make sure to stop by the Creative Scrappers blog to see what the other designers did with this sketch. While you're there, check out the call for the new DT. This is such a great team to be a part of.

Enjoy Today & a Paper Issues Blog Hop

I'm participating in a Paper Issues blog hop today through October 7 and it's sponsored by A Flair for Buttons. If you haven't checked out her etsy store yet, you should...but not until after you get to the end of this blog hop because you have a chance to win some.

This girl is just so loveable, so huggable, so kissable! Seriously, I just love her to pieces. I tell her that I love her to pieces all the time. The first time she heard it was said, "what?" and I repeated myself and gave her a big hug and I thought she just shrugged it off. This sweet girl is soo good about expressing her love and I am luck to hear "Mommy, I love you" many times every day. A few days after I told her I love you to pieces, she said "Mommy, I love you in 5 pieces." Oh my word, I died. She's just too cute. Just a couple of days ago she did it again. She said "Mommy, I love you in 2 pieces." Then yesterday she told me she loves me in a million pieces!!! That's just one of the many things she says or does every day that make us smile and cherish having her in our lives!
Supplies from Scrapbook Circle September 2012 Kit "Talk of the Town": Lily Bee Persnickity Snooty Lily Bee Persnickity Huffy, Freckled Fawn Gold Airmail Washi Tape Lily Bee Persnickity Cardstock Stickers, Maya Road Linen Heart Elle’s Studio The Sweet Life Tiny Tags, Bella Blvd 12 X 12 Grey/Black Alpha Sheet. Not in kit: Flair from A Flair for Buttons; American Crafts White Cardstock, Amy Tangerine Whitewash Muse Printed Chipboard Thickers Stickers, Close to My Heart Buttercup ink, Black Smash pen

Creative How to: I started out using this Lily Bee September sketch. I did a somewhat loose interpretation of it but stayed pretty true to it overall.
I used the paper strip at the top but I made it sizably larger. I used the banner stickers at the top but left aligned them to the page because once I added the heart, it just looked too cluttered. I added strips of paper, washi tape and stamping to create chevron and strip effects around the photo. Also, I hand cut the scallops by simply following along the pre-printed scallops on the 12x12 paper. When I was done, I was left with a very thin, curly bit. It was just laying there on the side of my desk asking, begging, pleading to be used  on the layout so I added it over the heart. Oh and I like to stretch my supplies and I noticed that two hearts were stitched together so before I adhered my heart, I cut out the middle of the heart on the back. I kept the stitching and two layers on the outer edges but now I have a smaller heart I can use elsewhere. Oh and the flair was sent to me from A Flair for Buttons. I really like the quality of these bits and will be ordering more!

My journaling is tucked behind the photo at the bottom. I added a strip of washi to the card so I can easily pull it in and out. Note that I am not picking a favorite daughter! I'm talking about favorite moments with this little girl.
The arrows were actually cut from the Lily Bee cardstock sticker sheet. I just trimmed them down a bit from a banner to triangles.

Oh and the title was made like this. The word ENJOY is using white alphas from the Bella Blvd alpha sheet sent to me in the kit. I fully intended to outline them since white on white doesn't necessarily show up very well. :) The word today was made my ink staining the Amy Tangerine white wash muse alphas. These were white and needed some color. They took the ink very well. I simply rubbed them over the ink pad and then wiped off the excess ink.

It's time to link up your flair projects to Paper Issues but while you're here why don't you hop along with us for a chance to win some flair yumminess from A Flair for Buttons! Just like their Facebook page and then leave a comment on THIS Paper Issues post saying you did for a chance to win. Two winners will each win a package of flair!!! Mad Hatter Tea Party

I want to show you a layout I did about a month ago but didn't post to my blog since it was for a challenge I was hosting. Anyway, I went to London in June for my job and the hubby was able to join me on the trip. We flew out a few days early to do some sightseeing, all at our personal expense of course!

We absolutely loved our visit to London but I was a little dissapointed with the fact that I could not find a tea room. We came across lots of pubs but seriously where are the tea rooms??? We finally found one in Bath and what do you know? It was an Alice in Wonderland theme. SCORE!

Supplies: Scrapbook Circle Let Freedom Ring kit: Pink Paislee Declaration - Block Party 00718Declaration - Pinwheel 00715Declaration - Element Stickers 00721Declaration - Alphabet Stickers 00722Declaration - Windsock 00720Maya Road Chipboard Star, Maya Road Chipboard banners, Bella Blvd Red Washi Tape, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher, Imaginisce i-rock, Mr. Huey mists

Although I accidentally smudged the journaling, it reads: I'll admit that I was a bit surprised to discover that they didn't have tea rooms on every corner in London. It wasn't until we went to Bath that we found one...and it was a great one! It was called the Mad Hatter Tea Room and it was all decked out in Alice in Wonderland decor. I got a ham & brie pannini and chai tea!

AC Spotlight: She Sells Seashells By the Sea Shore

Hi there! I thought I'd share a couple of layouts I made for my 1st spotlight on the American Crafts blog! I received a delicious package of Amy Tan Sketchbook, Dear Lizzy Neapolitan and Shoreline in my first design team box shipment. Yay, it was so fun to open up that package!

We recently came back from a trip to the beach so I choose to tackle the Shoreline collection they gave me to create with first! My daughter had a blast searching for seashells. She probably spent a good 45 minutes just walking up and down the beach collecting as many as she could and naturally, I snapped a few photos.

Supplies - American Crafts Shoreline collection: Solana Paper (35738) – Shoreline, Carpinteria Paper (35721) – Shoreline, Coronado Paper (35728) – Shoreline, Ventura (35731) – Shoreline, Santa Monica Paper (35723) – Shoreline, Edgewater Paper (35739) – Shoreline, Sea Isle Paper (35732) – Shoreline, Neptune Paper (35729) – Shoreline, Pacific Beach Paper (35737) – Shoreline, Black (53360) – Thickers, Flamingo (42249) – Remarks Book Accent & Phrase Stickers, Surfboard (85584) – Delights Paper Flowers, American Crafts Knockout Punch Set

Journaling reads: This handful of seashells was just the start of the many you collected in your bucket.

Creative How to: I started both these pages with one thing in mind - the title! I wanted to use She Sells Seashells by the Sea Shore. I was going to put it all on one page but I decided to break it up so I could of course showcase the photos but also get a bit creative with the title. For the first page, I cut the word "Seashells" out of the yellow & white background paper using my CAMEO and tossed the letters but keeping the negative space. I then added the blue & white paper, which I think resembles shells, behind the negative space so that it shows through the paper. I could have just cur the letters from the blue paper but it actually looks nice and "negative-like" in person. Then I added the Thickers for the rest of the title.

For the rest of the 1st page, I simply layered a variety of distressed, punched and even wonky cut papers and then added stickers and other elements behind it, adding a bit of doodling and faux stitching. I finished it off by adding the paper flowers.

That page can be viewed as a standalone page or together with this one.

Supplies - American Crafts Shoreline collection: Oceanside Paper (35727) – Shoreline, Coronado Paper (35728) – Shoreline, Ventura (35731) – Shoreline, Edgewater Paper (35739) – Shoreline, Pacific Beach Paper (35737) – Shoreline, Neptune Paper (35729) – Shoreline, Carpinteria Paper (35721) – Shoreline, Vero Paper (35719) – Shoreline, Malibu Paper (35722) – Shoreline, Sea Isle Paper (35732) – Shoreline, Black (53360) – Thickers, Flamingo (42249) – Remarks Book Accent & Phrase Stickers, Surfboard (85584) – Delights Paper Flowers, Solid Adhesive Runner (61719) – This to That, Foam Dots (61709) – This to That, Black (62311) – Precision Pen 03.

Journaling reads: You were on a mission to gather all the shells you could find.

Creative How-to: Just like the page before, I cut the title from the background paper revealing the negative space. I then added the rest of the title. I usually do this step last but I wanted to make sure it all worked out as I envisioned it. Then, to show the magnitude of my daughter’s quest to find as many shells as she could, I made little mini scenes on the page by layering the photos, paper and embellishments.

This page can be seen as a standalone page but when you put the two pages together, like in an album, you see the entire story. And I love that the background papers aren't the same. I think it adds zest!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Holy moly, I'm on the American Crafts design team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lions Field Day

I've been wanting to scrap these photos from my daughter's field day, which occurred in April but I was feeling quite overwhelmed with the amount of photos I wanted to include. When I received the new Little Yellow Bicycle Makin' the Grade collection and saw the cork board paper I think my heart skipped a beat! It reminded me of the photo bulletin boards I often see in kids' rooms or offices with tons of photos tucked in them. I used that decor element as inspiration to create this 2-page layout.

Supplies: Little Yellow Bicycle Makin' the Grade collection: MG-108 Cork Board/Brown Solid, MG-103 School Bands/Brown Stripe, MG-111 Multi Fun Dot, MG-122 Decorative Edge Cardstock, MG-135 Stickers - Favorite Pieces, MG1100 Tear-out tickets & Journaling Card Book, MG-305 Paper Crafting Kit, MG-201 Canvas Stickers - Self Adhesive, MG-277 Stick Pins, MG-230 Clear Cuts Shapes, MG-279 Chipboard Shapes, American Crafts This & That Tape Runner, American Crafts Thickers - Vinyl stickers "Sprinkles", American Crafts Amy Tangerine Thickers "Scenes", American Crafts pen .03 in black.

Journaling reads: You were soo excited about Field Day! You had hoped to be teamed with Maysie and you were! You had a blast competing in all the games and races.

By the way, her other BFF is Jane (pictured) and she had also hoped to be teamed with either her or Maysie. The journaling on the page reads as I wrote it above because I ran out of space and it just flowed better. She adores them both!

Creative How to:
The first thing I did after I created the photoboard (read about it in the next paragraph) was to lay the die cut cardstock across both pages. I wanted it to tie the two pages together but didn't want it to dominate. I then layered the photo, journaling and embellishments over it. Then I took the canvas sticker banner, which comes in a straight line in the packaging but it has enough flex to curve it slightly. I then added star stickers, accordion ribbon and the title, using the silver glitter alphas to tie in to the thumb tacks, stars and trophy elements.

I used a sketch from Creating Keepsakes but altered it slightly. It called for the 2nd page to be designed just a bit different and for another photo. Like I said above, I wanted to design the 2nd page to resemble a photo bulletin board. I laid it all out with paper strips (cut to ~1/4") and then before I adhered them I played around with inserting the photos. Once I liked the placement, I removed the photos and adhered the strips to the paper. Note, I only adhered the strips where they cross each other, just like it would be on a real photo board. If you adhere the entire strips down, you won't be able to tuck your photos under them. :)

Once I had the board created, I tucked photos under the faux ribbon strips and "tacked" other photos using the chipboard stars as faux thumbtacks.

I am really happy with how this came together and how I was able to include 9 photos on the layout. One lat thing...I loved the little chipboard trophy but it needed a bit more to make it pop. I used the clear cuts shapes and stik pins to make it complete!

I Mustache You a Question...

Did you see the post on the Authentique blog where their DT donned mustaches? Too cute. I thought I'd show some photos of me and my fam with our 'staches at my cousin's baby shower! I cannot wait to meet our newest family member...it's a BOY!
These are all the crazy ladies in my family (minus Rheagan who was performing in a play that weekend)! And by crazy I mean muy loco!!! The mommy-to-be, aka Kimberlee, is the pretty one in green! Who am I kidding, they are all a bunch of beauties! Then it's my mom in lime, my cousin Veronica (VJ or Veej) in the back, Reese, me and my Aunt/Grandma-to-be, Yolie. I can really see our resemblance in this photo!
Awww, me and my baby girl!
My cousin Chris, who is more like a brother to me, and Reese. Kim is a Train Master, ya know like in the movie Unstoppable, hence the conductor hats.
She may be little but she can hold her own!
Mwuah!

Thanks for the fun, Authentique!

Menu Review: Ham & Swiss Sliders

I was inspired at dinner the other night to start something new here on my blog. I had just tried a new recipe, which I discovered through a link of a link via Pinterest. Anyway, I made it and saw that my oldest daughter devoured hers and asked for seconds. That never happens so I went around the table and asked everyone to rate it. So, I will begin to feature the recipes that we enjoyed and include how it was rated by me (is it easy and if not, is it worth the time, and taste), plus rating by the kids, and the hubby. This will be an occasional feature here and there cause we all know this is my scrap happy blog but I thought it'd be fun to share these family favorites.

These recipes will be pinned to my Yumminess or Healthier Recipes boards on Pinterest along with many others or you can search the "recipe tag" at the bottom right of my blog to read reviews of the recipes or to see how I've modified the recipe for my family's picky eaters. Note that I have not yet tried all the recipes I've pinned but I plan to.

Ham & Swiss Sliders
Original Recipe from Chef in Training

Overall Rating (scale from 1 - 5): 4
Kids: 5++
Hubby: 3 1/2 stars
Me: 3 1/2 stars - very easy to make; perfect for last minute snack or meal; I'm not a fan of mayo/miracle whip so I'd leave them off mine but add it to the other sliders for the family.

Skill: Easy Peasy
Time: Took me all of 10-ish minutes to prep them and then another 15 minutes in the oven to warm them.

I only wanted to make 12 sliders so I just cut the original recipe in half (which is reflected below)

Ingredients
12 white dinner rolls - I used King's Hawaiian Rolls...Yummy!
12 pieces honey ham
12 small slices Swiss Cheese
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup miracle whip

Poppy Seed Sauce
1/2 Tbsp. poppy seeds - I suggest reducing this to 1/4 Tbsp. cause a little bit goes a long way and you can always add more if you want.
3/4 Tbsp. mustard
1/4 cup butter melted
1/2 Tbsp. minced onion - I didn't have onion so I used about a 1/2 Tbsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

How to:
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and miracle whip.Cut Rolls in halves. Spread mayonaise-miracle whip mixture on each side of the roll. Place a piece of honey ham and Swiss cheese on one half of each roll. Fold back into sandwich form.

Place rolls close together in a greased 9x13 pan until pan in completely full. A square 8x8 pan fit 12 rolls perfectly.

Mix together all ingredients of Poppy Seed Sauce. Spread evenly over the tops of all the rolls. Use as much or little of the sauce as you want.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes.

Meet the Teacher

My daughter absolutely loves school! The back 2 school excitement seems to build up for her all summer and we look for that letter they send through the mail right before school starts, which tells us her teacher assignments! It's really fun for her. What we really enjoy though is going to Meet the Teacher, which is usually the Friday before school starts. She gets to check out her classroom and meet her teachers! This layout tells that story for her from this year's festivities.

Supplies: Little Yellow Bicycle Makin' the Grade collection: MG-102 New Notebook/Blue Fun Dot, MG-101 Alpha Block/Red Stripe, MG-103 School Bands/Brown Stripe, MG-104 Lockers/Grey Text, MG-111 Multi Fun Dot/Green Stripe, MG-140 Stickers - Fresh Verse, MG-167 Cork Word & Shape Stickers - Self Adhesive, MG-195 Dimensional Title Pack, MG-201 Canvas Stickers - Self Adhesive, MG-220 Fabric Favorites - Self Adhesive, MG-230 Clear Cuts Shapes, MG-279 Chipboard Shapes, MG-304 6x6 Paper Pad.

Creative How to: I'm on a sketch creatin' kick right now so I created this sketch that you can use if you wish to recreate a similar layout (it doesn't have to be school related).
really love all the variations of banners and pennants in the LYB Makin' the Grade collection - from the canvas to the cork shapes, fabric favorites and so much more, I had to use them all! Knowing I wanted to use them all, I decided to lay low with my paper choices, avoiding the busier ones so I could focus on the photos and fun embellies.

To make the cork elements pop just a bit more, I outlined them with black pen.

To make the title, I used the Fresh Verse stickers but I had already used some of the stickers so I used the "M" and the "T" stickers and then I cut the rest of the letters out of the Alpha Block paper from the 6x6 paper pad. It worked great and gave me a fun variety of letters that still coordinate.

Journaling reads: Rheagan is soo ready to start 3rd grade. We had a great time meeting Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Laudermilk.

This is such a great back to school line!

Make sure to participate in the two blog hops I'm part of right now. They both end on Sept. 8. Just click on my blog header to see the "Blog Hop Quick Links" post.

I created this layout of my daughter and her grandfather aka my dad. We call him Big Daddy. That's what I called my dad's dad and since my dad is a Jr., it was most fitting that he be a Big Daddy too! Anyway, we found this fun crazy hair hat and gave it to him as part of his Father's Day gift. He and Rheagan had a great time playing with hats and I was lucky enough to capture a few of them with Instagram!

Supplies: Scrapbook Circle June 2012 Field Notes Kit: Crate Paper Story Teller Archives, Studio Calico Abroad Continental, Studio Calico Abroad Boarding Pass, My Mind's Eye Caroline Curious Planks, Simple Stories Documented Chevron, Echo Park This & That Numbers, Echo Park This & That 12 x 12 Alpha Stickers, Bella Blvd Teal Washi Tape, Jillibean Vacation Soup Label, 7 Gypsies Travel/Date Stickers, misc star punch, misc circle punch (3 sizes), Janome sewing machine, Imaginisce i-rock & glam rocks, Mr Hueys Mist in Bonny Blue & Calico, Bazzil Tape Runner, Zig black pen in .5mm.

Creative How To: I used Creative Scrappers sketch 187 by Kristine Davidson. I created 3 little stories on the page with layers of paper and embellishments. I strategically placed certain words, like "misdirected", "historic landmark" etc around the photos. I then misted over the papers, punched stars and 3 different size circles. I splattered them out on the page and when happy with where they landed for the most part, I on;y had to move a few of them around.

Journaling reads: A classic case of the sillies with Big Daddy on Father's Day 2011.

Happy 'stache Memories

So today is my official first day of duty for American Crafts and I am sooo excited! I thought it would be a great time to show you this layout I created with the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook collection! I know it's a bit bright but neon is in and this collection is living up to that fun trend.

This layout is from a baby bash some of us threw for my cousin Kim, I am soo excited for her and her hubby Jose, who are having a sweet baby boy this fall!  I'll share photos of how we decorated for the shower very soon but in the meantime, here's a little peek at part of the theme - mustaches!

My other cousin, Veronica made these cute mustaches and a frame for our party guests to pose with. My youngest daughter and I had a blast playing along. We got a cute this shot of us together.
Supplies: American Crafts Amy Tangerine Sketchbook collection.

Creative How To: I used the grey and black neutral paper as my background to offset all the color I was intending to use. I misted over the sheet and then layered paper and bits of fussy cut elements, tags, brads and more behind my photo. I knew when I looked at the paper that I wanted to add more pops of color and lucky for me, there is another paper in this collection exactly like this neutral sheet but the cameras are colored in. Naturally, I cur out some of the cameras and placed them around the page. I then added fussy cut popped-up flowers and brands on some of them to add dimension.

Journaling reads: We had an absolute blast playing with our mustache disguises at Kim's baby shower. Reese & Mommy August 2012.

Thanks for stopping by today! There's more American Crafts projects coming soon!
